Saint Cirq Lapopie

Perched high above the Lot River, Saint Cirq Lapopie has rightfully earned the title of "most beautiful villages in France".  With it's medieval architecture, quaintness is abound.  The view driving up the hill is as rewarding as the one you will be rewarded with once you reach the top.

Like every other French village, flowers adore every structure where they grow.  For me potentially my favourite memory is the morning tea and pastry that we enjoyed.  To appreciate this serene moment you have to understand the preceding 12 hours.
Before arriving in St. Cirq Lapopie we were in Cahors.  It was Saturday evening, we had not yet eaten and we needed gas.  I told my husband that we needed to fill up with gas in Cahors.  I knew that the village was high above on a hill.  Tomorrow was Sunday.  I did not know how many gas stations we would find open on Sunday.  Of course, my husband being male insisted that there would be a gas station open on Sunday.  (He has not traveled as extensively outside the country as I have).  We started driving and driving...no gas station.  I insisted that we return to Cahors.  It was your typical moment of spousal bliss. (hahaha).
We ended up giving up our room in St. Cirq Lapopie.  I had a reservation but had not paid.  I was concerned that the woman would have given it away.  This was before the days of traveling with a cell phone.  It was not an enjoyable evening.  The following morning things were still slightly sour.  Until we arrived in St. Cirq Lapopie.   Like the mist hovering over the village, the tension evaporated as we climbed the hill.  How can you be angry when you see a village as pretty as this one?
My husband wanted morning tea.  I am always open for tea and a pastry.  We sat down at a patisserie and I had clafoutis for the first time.  Clafoutis is a French pastry,  made with eggs, milk and cherries.  Delicious, is one word I would use to describe.  I think it has been almost 7 years since that morning and I can still taste it melting in my mouth.

...and yes I am still with my husband despite the argument over filling up with gas.

This is my contribution to Dreaming of France, hosted by Paulita at An Accidental Blog.

It's certainly a beautiful village- it's astonishing how many gorgeous villages like that there are in France. Glad it helped patch things up- the joys of travelling as a couple!

Wonderful captures of this pretty village with a pretty name ... Saint cirque de Lapopie.... dont you just love the sound of it.
Clafoutis are SO uniquely French and I can understand how the memory of the day lingers on .... My favourite two French desserts are cherry clafouti and crème brûlée.

Lovely rural village. I like how it sits high on a hill overlooking the gorgeous scenery . Why is it you can't get men to listen to you about directions and getting gas? It happens all the time...
