Author Mayle is known for his books set in Provence. I thought that he did a great job with this one. I could picture myself in the idyllic towns and villages as I was reading. Chasing Cezanne is little of the beaten path for Mayle. Photographer Andre finds himself involved in a mystery when he drops in unexpectedly on a billionaire's daughter to see the butler loading a Cezanne into a plumber's truck. From here his adventure begins as he tries to figure out what is going on. What he does not anticipate is that the owner of the Cezanne is in on the caper.
The book had some unrealistic moments, as I questioned how the photographer could afford to be jetting off to the Bahamas to meet with the Cezanne's owner and then spiriting across the Atlantic back to France to follow up on his hunches. But, that is the joy of reading it just transports you to another place. Who said I had to question the price of an airline ticket.
Chasing Cezanne is a quick read that I enjoyed while lounging at the beach.
